Help Remove Invasive Scotch Broom & Support Environmental Education at The River Center.
Did you know those pretty yellow flowers are causing big problems for our local environment?
Scotch Broom is a highly invasive, noxious weed that is overtaking our natural spaces, outcompeting native plants, and reducing wildlife habitat. To add to this plant's list of bad habits it’s mildly toxic and its fragrance can trigger allergic reactions. It spreads easily and a single plant can produce up to 18,000 seeds a year.
We’re fighting back! For the 13th year in a row, Broom Busters has been fighting back against the takeover from this unwelcome guest to preserve our natural spaces, provide community education, and raise funds to support educational programs at the Dungeness River Nature Center.
This March, volunteers will work every Wednesday morning along the Olympic Discovery Trail to remove the Scotch Broom before it has the chance to flower and spread seeds.
How can you be a part of our battle against the brooms?
